Let's take care of our home!
The Everglades once encompassed 11,000 square miles of beautiful swamps, ponds, and marshes from the Kissimmee river to the Florida Bay. While being home to one of the most diverse habitats in the world, the Everglades reigned supreme in the natural world until the plight of man. When colonizers in the early 1900’s saw the land, they viewed it as potential communities and farmlands, thus beginning the draining of the swamp. In 1947, the Everglades National Park was formed in order to prevent further degradation and protect our fragile environment. Through this website, you can explore some of the species that inhabit the wetlands, ways you can help, and opportunities to experience the Everglades on a personal level.
